Switch Between the Tonneau Cover and Topper

Fas-Top Traveler Soft TopperFas-Top Traveler Tonneau Cover

Some days your truck bed is carrying groceries, tools, or gear that fits below the rails. Other days it's bikes, stacked bins, hunting gear, or something else that sits above them. The Fas-Top Traveler gives you a tonneau cover for the smaller loads and a cab-height soft topper for the taller ones, all on the same truck. Fold the topper down when you want to use the tonneau cover, or remove it completely when you need to use your whole bed or tow with a 5th-wheel or gooseneck hitch.

A Lightweight Frame That Folds Out of the Way

Fas-Top Traveler Soft Topper X-Frame Underneath

The aluminum X-frame gives the topper its shape without the weight of a hard shell. It folds down into the sling in less than a minute, or you can remove the topper by releasing 4 corner latches and pulling 2 pins. Because the frame weighs less than a hard topper, you keep more of your truck's payload available for the gear you're actually hauling. The X-frame supports the soft topper fabric to help reduce flapping while you're driving.

Carry Long Gear Without Giving Up Covered Bed Space

Fas-Top JayBar Ladder Rack With Soft Truck Topper

Kayaks, ladders, and lumber can take up most of your truck bed before you load coolers, tools, camping gear, and everything else you're bringing with you. You can find the compatible ladder rack here: Fas-Top JayBar ladder rack (FT97MJ - sold separately). Add it to carry long gear above your bed while the topper keeps the rest covered below. The JayBar ladder rack and Traveler use the same Fas-Top rails, so the rack can stay in place when you switch between the topper and tonneau cover. Add the JayBar side bars (FT98GJ - sold separately) when you want additional mounting space along the sides of the rack for gas cans, recovery jacks, traction boards, and other bulky gear. The side bars mount in a high or low position, so you can place that gear where it works best for your setup.

Install Without Drilling Into Your Truck

Fas-Top Truck Bed Rails

The model-specific Fas-Top rails clamp to your truck's bed rails without drilling or welding. Installation only requires a 9/16" wrench or socket and a tape measure. Built-in utility tracks give the tonneau cover, JayBar ladder rack, and other Fas-Top accessories a place to mount, so you can switch between the topper and tonneau cover while keeping the JayBar available for long gear overhead.

Get More Airflow or Keep Your Gear Out of Sight

Fas-Top Blackout Rear Window

The Traveler comes with clear front and rear windows. If you're camping in your truck bed, traveling with pets, or carrying gear that needs more ventilation, replace the clear rear window with the mesh rear window (FT49CV - sold separately). If you have luggage, tools, camping gear, or other cargo you don't want visible through the back of the topper, the blackout rear window (FT43UV - sold separately) replaces the clear rear window with an opaque panel.

See what our Experts say about this Fas-top Tonneau Cover

  • Can Roof Basket Or Awning Be Added To Fas-Top Jaybar Ladder Rack With Tonneau Cover And Topper Shell
Absolutely, Patrick. The JayBar # FT97MJ uses standard-size T-slots in the crossbars, so it’ll fit most rooftop baskets, awnings, and recovery boards. Just be aware that it is a fixed system, not adjustable, so it won't be able to bring the crossbars inward for most baskets or roof top tents; some pay fit if they're long enough. On your 2025 Silverado 1500 with the Traveler # FT48RV, the combo gives you a covered, enclosed bed (switch between topper shell and tonneau cover) plus a rack...

  • Can I Open Just The Topper Section Of Traveler FT48RV With Tonneau Cover Still Rolled Out?
Great question, Angela. On your 2025 Sierra 1500, the Traveler # FT48RV lets you open the topper independently - but the tonneau portion does need to be rolled up when the topper is fully extended. That’s how the frame clears and operates correctly. When the topper’s down, the tonneau rolls back out to seal the bed tight again. Do you prefer quick access to tall cargo or a fully enclosed setup most of the time?

  • Can I Install Rooftop Tent On Fas-Top Jaybar Ladder Rack While Topper Shell & Tonneau Are Installed?
Hey Nate, good question. The Fas-Top JayBar # FT97MJ mounts into the Traveler tonneau/topper combo # FT48RV rails on your 2025 Sierra 1500 6-1/2' bed and can handle about 500 lbs evenly distributed, so it’s structurally capable of supporting most rooftop tents, including two campers inside. That said, the JayBar uses fixed-position crossbars, not adjustable ones. The 1/4" T-slot channels fit standard tie-downs, lighting, and awning brackets, but before mounting a rooftop tent it’s a good...

  • Is The Fas-Top Camper Shell Tall Enough For Camping Or Is It Too Low? 2025 Sierra 1500 6-1/2' Bed
Good question, Jordan. On your 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 6-1/2' bed, the # FT44EV sits just under the cab roofline, usually a couple inches, making it more aerodynamic than an empty bed since the wind just continues the lines of the truck roof. Inside, there’s still enough clearance for plenty of big items like coolers, duffel bags, a dog crate, or even a truck bed mattress like # 341002. You can just measure out to your tailgate and bed rails, and measure up to the roof line, and that's about...

  • Which Soft Camper Shell Topper Is Best For Camping In 2025 Silverado/Sierra 1500 6-1/2 Bed?
For a dedicated camping build on your 2025 Silverado 1500 (or Sierra 1500) with 6-1/2' bed, I’d lean toward the Traveler # FT48RV, Hannah. It combines the roll-up tonneau and collapsible topper into one integrated system, so you can open either section independently and keep things tidy long-term. The Solo # FT44EV is a great standalone topper if you’d rather start simple - it installs on its own without a tonneau cover. If you ever decide you want a bed cover down the road, you can just...

  • Is There A Soft Tonneau Cover That Is Secure And TheftProof For 2025 Silverado 1500 6-1/2' Bed?
Brianna, when your 2025 Silverado 1500 (or Sierra 1500) tailgate is locked, the # FT42MV is secure. Its spring-loaded latches sit inside the rails, so the cover can’t be rolled without opening the tailgate. The sides tuck under the rails, leaving no easy pry points. It’s not a hard-shell vault, but it’s very effective against casual access. Basically, these soft covers will keep an honest person out, but unfortunately a thief can still find a way in if he/she really wants to. If you want...

  • Does The Fas-Top Soft Topper Shell Sit On Top Of The Fas-Top Tonneau Cover? Or Around It?
Hey Maria, good question - and the answer is no, they sit at the same overall height on your 2025 Silverado 1500 (or Sierra 1500) with the 6-1/2' bed. The topper section of the Traveler # FT48RV uses the same bow design and fabric as the stand-alone # FT44EV, so both stay just below the cab roofline when open. The difference is underneath - the Traveler includes the roll-up tonneau layer that seals the bed when the topper is folded down. But when you’re using the topper, that tonneau is...

  • Can Fas-Top Traveler FT48FR Combo Topper And Tonneau Be Folded To Carry Large Items In Bed?
Yes sir, Sam. The Traveler # FT48RV is built for exactly that kind of flexibility. On your 2025 Silverado 1500, the topper portion can be retracted forward and stored in its sling at the cab, while the roll-up tonneau below can stay open or closed depending on what you’re hauling. The frame’s quick-release bows let you open up the entire bed for taller loads like bikes or coolers in just a few seconds with no tools! What kind of gear are you usually hauling - camping, tools, or both? It’s...

  • Ladder Rack That Works With Tonneau Cover And Soft Camper Shell On 2025 Silverado 1500 6-1/2' Bed
It is, absolutely, Shawn. The JayBar # FT97MJ was designed as the universal rack for the entire Fas-Top system family, so it bolts into the same side tracks used by the # FT48RV combo setup or any of their tonneaus/toppers. That way you can keep both your tonneau and topper installed and still have a functional rack for kayaks, boards, or ladders. Are you planning to leave it on full-time? If not, you can easily remove it seasonally.

  • Does Fas-Top Traveler Topper And Tonneau Cover Allow Tailgate To Open On Silverado 1500 6-1/2' Bed?
Yep, Paul, the Traveler # FT48RV keeps your tailgate fully functional. On your 2025 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 with 6-1/2' bed, the tonneau section latches inside the rails but doesn’t block the tailgate, so you can open it anytime. The rear flap seals against the top of the tailgate to keep dust and water out. That’s a nice perk if you’re grabbing gear at a campsite without unlatching the topper. Do you plan to keep the topper up most of the time or use it seasonally?
